EXHIBITIONS OF INCOMPETENCE...

"THE PATRON SAINT OF LOSERS" -BBC

35 YEARS, 1.5 HITS, NO SHORTAGE OF BALLS...

ROCK AND ROLL'S GREATEST FAILURE and UK cult legend JOHN OTWAY finally returns with THE BIG BAND to Canada. In the midst of Britain's ‘70s punk revolution and after a momentous TV appearance where five and a half million viewers watched him land painfully on his testicles, Otway was high in the charts. His first single, "Really Free", soared to number 27 in the UK Singles Chart, sold 125,000 copies and convinced Polydor (who thought he was a punk rather than merely eccentric) to offer him a five album deal which exceeded those of the Sex Pistols, the Jam and the Clash. Never a man to do the expected, he rejected Pete Townshend as the producer of his first album, and looked forward to platinum albums, stadium gigs, world tours and a squad of bodyguards to see him safely aboard his private jet. Unfortunately, it didn't happen that way. However, failure has its rewards. It’s kept Otway in the spotlight for 35 years, with over 4000 shows under his belt and a movie. Forever gigging, Otway's live audience has remained loyal due to his physical and vocal mayhem, and refined humor.

"Otway is one of my very faves, I make no excuses for citing him as a genius and unique, and he's the only one I would ever allow to destroy a microphone." -Gary Topp
